Rabies-Positive Bat Found Near Curry Village in Yosemite

A dead big brown bat discovered outside the Curry Village showerhouse on May 18, 2026, has been confirmed positive for rabies by park officials. The find was reported by the National Park Service and no human contact with the bat has been identified. Anyone who may have had direct contact with a bat in the Curry Village area around that date should promptly contact the California Department of Health and a healthcare provider to assess the need for treatment, according to the agency's advisory.
