The National Park Service and the U.S. Wildland Fire Service will ignite an approximately 80‑acre prescribed burn in the Baker Creek watershed of Great Basin National Park starting the week of Nov. 2, weather permitting. The burn is intended to improve wildlife habitat and reduce the risk of uncontrolled wildfires. During the operation, Baker Creek Road and Pole Canyon Road will be closed at the winter turnaround gates, and the burn area will be off‑limits to visitors until the fire is fully contained.
