Portions of Santa Rosa Island Reopen for Overnight Camping Oct 14

The National Park Service announced that Water Canyon Campground and designated backcountry beach camping areas in the northwest and southwest quadrants of Santa Rosa Island will reopen for overnight use beginning Oct 14. This restores access for campers after a seasonal closure. The southeast quadrant will remain closed to backcountry camping for the rest of the 2026 recreation season and no permits will be issued there. The burn area also stays off-limits to visitors.
