NOAA Fisheries Celebrates Habitat Month with Restoration Efforts

NOAA Fisheries is celebrating Habitat Month by sharing its efforts to protect and restore habitat for fisheries and endangered species

As part of its Habitat Month celebration, NOAA Fisheries is highlighting its work to restore habitats for salmon and steelhead in the lower Columbia River tributary. The removal of the Kwoneesum Dam is expected to restore 6.5 miles of fish passage and 1.3 miles of in-stream habitat on Wildboy Creek. Additionally, the agency is promoting its Return ‘Em Right program, which provides training and outreach to anglers on proper handling and release techniques to reduce stress and injury to released fish.
