New Superintendent Appointed for El Morro and El Malpais Monuments

The National Park Service announced that Brinnen Carter will serve as the new superintendent for both El Morro and El Malpais national monuments. Carter’s appointment takes effect on Oct 4 2026 and follows the standard transition process for monument leadership.

As superintendent, Carter will oversee the management of the monuments, including public recreation, cultural preservation, and wildlife resources. The NPS expects a seamless continuation of current policies that affect hunting and other outdoor activities on the sites.
