Monocacy Battlefield Unveils One-Mile Monument Trail

The National Park Service opened a one-mile Monument Trail at Thomas Farm on Monday, marking America in Motion and National Park Week 2026. The trail provides a guided route through the fields where intense fighting took place on July 9, 1864.

Interpretive signs along the path explain how Union forces, though forced to retreat, delayed Confederate troops and helped protect Washington, D.C. The addition improves public access while preserving the historic landscape.
