The National Park Service announced that, as of 5 p.m. on Wednesday, October 7, the Halemaʻumaʻu Trail and a portion of the Byron Ledge Trail will be closed. The decision follows continued inflation and increased seismic activity at the Kīlauea summit, prompting a safety precaution for visitors. The combined closure affects about 1.3 miles of trail. Hunters planning to be in Hawai‘i Volcanoes National Park should avoid the area, stay on open routes, and monitor NPS updates for when the trails may reopen.
