Grand Canyon expands inner-canyon closures after August 29 flash flood

Park officials are widening inner-canyon closures as crews assess damage and begin repairs to trails, bridges and utilities.

The National Park Service announced that additional sections of the inner canyon are now closed following the destructive flash flood on August 29 that damaged Bright Angel Canyon and the Phantom Ranch area. Staff from the park and partner agencies are conducting damage assessments and starting repair and stabilization work on affected trails, bridges, utilities and other infrastructure. Maintaining safe access for response personnel and keeping visitors out of hazardous zones remains a top priority as recovery efforts continue.
