Glacier NP Closes Alpine Stretch of Going-to-the-Sun Road Friday

The National Park Service announced that beginning at 7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 9, 2026, the alpine portion of Going-to-the-Sun Road will be closed from Avalanche to Jackson Glacier Overlook. The closure is a precaution as temperatures are expected to fall sharply, bringing rain and possible snowfall over the weekend. Hunters planning trips in the area should adjust travel routes and check for updates before heading to the park, as the closure may affect access to backcountry hunting zones.
