Glacier Bay Lifts 13-knot Speed Limit in Whale Waters

Acting Superintendent Joni Seay announced that the 13-knot vessel speed limit in Queen Inlet and on the eastern side of Lower Bay whale waters will be removed effective Oct 1, 2026 at 5:00 AM. The change applies to all motorized craft operating in those areas of Glacier Bay National Park and Preserve. Boaters, including hunters who travel by water, should be aware that higher speeds may be permitted, but safety and wildlife disturbance remain priorities. Visitors are encouraged to follow all other park regulations and to stay alert for marine life.
